The increasing power generation from coal can be observed throughout the years in contrast to the seemingly stagnant power generation from other sources. In recent years, power generation from oil has been decreasing, and there was an increase in power generation from renewable energy starting from 2015. The Luzon trend, shown below, behaves in a similar way.

The decrease in power generation from oil is more prominent in Visayas and Mindanao. For Visayas, it seems that this is replaced by renewable energy in the form of solar and biomass. For Mindanao, the power generation was taken over by coal. Mindanao’s power generation from Oil is primarily from Diesel; thus, this decreasing trend signifies the decrease in diesel power generation in the region.
